Let Us Address Your General and Family Dentistry Needs
The temporomandibular joints (TMJs) connect the jawbone to the skull. TMJ disorder can be caused by many different conditions, but it is often the result of an imbalanced bite. It can lead to a multitude of symptoms including facial pain and headaches. Dr. Kearney offers sophisticated treatments to help you achieve the relief you need.
Sleep apnea is a condition in which breathing becomes interrupted during sleep. Symptoms of sleep apnea include fatigue, restlessness during sleep, snoring, discomfort after awaking, and more. Sleep apnea occurs when the throat muscles become relaxed during sleep, obstructing the airway and interrupting breathing. Dr. Kearney uses oral appliances that help keep the airway open while patients sleep, helping them to achieve quality rest.
Preventive care includes all dental treatments and daily at-home routines that prevent the collection of bacteria and plaque on the teeth and gums. With proper preventive care, patients can avoid cavities and periodontal disease that lead to painful symptoms and tooth loss. Dr. Kearney's preventative treatments include sealants, cleanings, and oral cancer screenings, which can detect oral cancer early, when it is most treatable.
Root canal surgery is a process of removing infected tissue from the inside of a tooth, and preserving the healthy outer portions. Root canal surgery allows patients to preserve teeth rather than extracting them. Dr. Kearney removes the pulp, or blood vessels and nerves, from the inside of the tooth. The remaining structure is restored with a dental crown.
Dr. Kearney can treat gum disease in its early stage, called gingivitis, with a deep cleaning and mouth wash. However, for advanced periodontitis, patients will need a deep cleaning and additional professional treatment such as root planing and scaling. Because this disease can lead to gum recession, tooth loss, and other damage, early treatment is the very best approach.
